Is Drinking Water Really That Good For You?

Imagine if there was a product that helped you lose weight, rid your body of toxins, manage mood, improve memory, feel full, have more energy and move better.

What if we told you that there is a product that provides all of these things in our everyday lives? And the best part is-  It’s free!

All you need to do?...

Drink more water.

We have all been told to “drink more water.”

In the fitness industry it’s always mentioned as a side note to a nutrition plan or exercise regimen- “Make sure to get your water in today! It’s important.” However, just how important water is to our mental health, weight and the way our bodies function is highly underestimated or talked about. We are here to tell you that it’s not only important, but crucial if you want to meet your health goals.

First things first, we have to talk about the foundation of how water interacts with our bodies since it depends on water to survive and function properly. Our brain and heart are the power houses of our body and are made up of mostly water (70-80%)! So, when we are dehydrated, it can affect our mood, memory, experience fatigue and have low energy. Additionally, our muscles and bones are also made mostly of water, so if we don’t get enough, we have cramps and our joints don’t move properly.

How does water play a role in weight loss?

When it comes to weight loss, the importance of drinking water is hard to overstate. If you are not getting enough water, your weight loss will stall…

Think about it like this, your body is a machine designed for survival. If your body is not provided an adequate amount of water every part of your body is running on fumes and will start to shut down. To keep you alive it begins to concentrate on conserving water.

How does it do this?

The body will actually start slowing everything down, stop putting energy into your metabolism (which burns fat) and will put its energy into conserving water, thus halting weight loss!

Further, dehydration will continually drive you to seek food when you’re not hungry.

Your body is very smart!

If you are dehydrated it will drive you to eat in hopes to extract water from the food you’re consuming and typically this would work if we were eating an apple, watermelon or cucumbers.  In our modern environment however, this is not the case…

With so many processed foods such as chips, protein bars or any easily grabbable packaged food, we will tend to reach for those first. And that’s why it’s not surprising we crave those food when we are dehydrated because they are loaded with salt. Dehydration triggers us to eat salty foods as our body tries to rebalance our electrolytes!

How much water do we need to drink?

The daily recommended amount we have all heard before is “8 glasses per day” (about 64 oz.) a day.

Here’s a curve ball… this is actually incorrect!

To replenish all of the cells in the body throughout the day The National Academy of Medicine actually determined that sixteen 8 oz glasses (128 oz.) were needed for men and eleven 8 oz glasses (88 oz.) were needed for women. Additionally, if you exercise this number increases! The safest bet for both men and women is to make the goal for water intake 100 oz. each day.

It’s clear just how important water intake is for our bodies. If you are on a health journey focusing on your water consumption is the very first habit to incorporate into your program. So, if you want to lose weight, feel better and move better, break out that hydroflask and drink up!
