Your Vacation Guide

A break from routine doesn’t mean a break from your goals. Travel with the habits you’ve built, and come home proud of how you handled the trip.

Vacations are supposed to feel like a break from our normal lives. A break from routines, responsibilities, and yes… sometimes even structure.

But if you’ve been building momentum with your nutrition, it’s normal to feel a little conflicted about dropping that structure while you’re away. The good news is, there’s a happy balance between following your nutrition plan and letting it totally go out the window.

With our clients, we don’t look at vacation as a time to be “perfect” or “off-plan.” We see it as an opportunity to practice flexibility, build confidence, and prove to yourself that your habits can travel with you.

Step 01 — Before You Go

Plan For What Actually Matters

Before your trip, ask yourself: “What food experiences are truly worth it?”

Most trips will have a “must-have” — a planned night out, a bakery, a restaurant, or a local specialty. The goal isn’t to avoid those. We want to prioritize them intentionally.

  • Look up menus ahead of time — most are online now.
  • Pre-log meals when possible.
  • Decide what you really want instead of saying yes to everything.
Remember

You don’t need everything. You just need the things that are worth it to you.

Step 02 — Pack Smart

Bring Your Non-Negotiables

Hitting nutrition goals (especially protein!) on the road can be tricky. Set yourself up by packing easy staples that can help fill in the nutrition gaps in your day.

  • Protein powder or ready-to-drink shakes
  • Protein bars or jerky
  • Travel-friendly snacks you already trust

Bringing some snacks and protein-heavy items with you will help reduce your decision fatigue and ensure you at least have your protein handled. Once you have that, everything else becomes more flexible.

Step 03 — On The Road

Upgrade Your “On-the-Go” Choices

Airports and convenience stops have lots of quality choices. We just need to look for them.

You can almost always find items like:

Greek yogurt

Protein-forward and easy to grab.

Pre-made protein boxes

Most airports and chains carry one.

Fresh fruit

Hydration and fiber in one stop.

Salads with grilled protein

The default sit-down option.

Macro-friendly fast casual

Chipotle, Cava, Sweetgreen, etc.

Beef jerky / hard-boiled eggs

Reliable convenience-store wins.

The key is to pause and game-plan before defaulting to grabbing whatever is easiest. Take stock of the options and choose the best one to meet your needs. This small amount of awareness goes a long way and helps you feel better throughout your trip.

Step 04 — Mindset Shift

Shift From Tracking Perfectly To Tracking Intelligently

We always remind clients that nutrition on vacation will look different than nutrition while at home. And… that’s okay.

Instead of aiming for perfection or for things to look just like they do at home, aim for informed flexibility. This might include estimating portions, loosely tracking, or relying on intuitive eating. Long-term success isn’t about perfection — it’s about navigating real-life situations while keeping nutrition in the forefront.

Step 05 — Daily Anchors

Keep Your “Nutrition Rocks”

While traveling, we’re focusing less on rigid rules and more on those big rocks of nutrition — the simple habits that build the foundation of wellness.

Hydration

Carry a water bottle. Match every cocktail with water.

Protein

Aim for a source at every meal.

Movement

Walk the city. Take the stairs. Hit a step goal.

High-quality food

Lean toward whole foods when you have the choice.

Focusing on these gives you structure without taking over your trip.

Step 06 — Reset, Don’t Spiral

Don’t Let One Meal Become A Spiral

One of the biggest mistakes we see with our clients is when one meal goes off track, we have the tendency to throw our hands up and convince ourselves that we’ve already “ruined it.”

Remember: one meal will not stop or derail progress. But the “I’ve ruined it” mindset will for sure knock you off course.

“I already messed up…” “I made a choice — now I’m moving forward.”
Step 07 — Slow Down

Practice Mindful Eating

Mindful eating, or intuitive eating, is a real skill. It’s something not everyone learns early in life, and changing that relationship with food takes time and practice. Vacation is actually one of the best times to slow down, listen to your body, and actually enjoy your food.

Mindful eating means you’re eating without distractions, really paying attention to how your food tastes, and stopping when you’re satisfied rather than when you’re stuffed.

Try It This Trip

We find most clients don’t practice this skill at home. Vacation is the perfect time to try it out — one meal at a time.

Step 08 — Keep Perspective

Remember What Vacation Is Really About

Lastly, we urge clients to remember that your progress isn’t defined by a few days away from routine. Vacations and time away are about spending that time with people you care about, exploring new places, and creating memories. Nutrition while on vacation shouldn’t take away from any of that.

Quick Reminders

Bring This With You

Tap any reminder for the one-line takeaway you’ll actually use mid-trip.

What do I do if I overdo it at one meal?

Move on. One meal doesn’t derail progress — the spiral that follows does. Next meal, return to your “rocks”: protein, hydration, movement.

I can’t track perfectly while traveling. Am I “off plan”?

No. Loose tracking, portion estimates, or even just logging a photo is still data. Informed flexibility beats perfection every time.

What’s the single most important thing to focus on?

Protein and hydration. Lock those in and the rest of the day stays more flexible without falling apart.

How do I handle airport and convenience-store stops?

Pause and game-plan before grabbing. Greek yogurt, jerky, protein boxes, fruit, or a salad with grilled protein are almost always available.

Should I still check in with my coach?

Yes. Log what you can, share the wins and the messy moments, and submit your weekly check-in. Your coach is in the app with you.

Do I need to “earn back” what I ate on vacation when I get home?

No. Come home and return to your normal habits. No restriction, no punishment workouts — just your routine.

You’re Set

Travel with your habits — not against them.

Pack the protein. Plan the must-haves. Drink the water. Enjoy the trip. Your coach is in the app with you the whole way.
