Women’s Health: Why We Can’t Keep Waiting

Women’s Health: Why We Can’t Keep Waiting
What We’re Seeing, What’s Been Missed, and Why Recoup is Stepping Up
If you’re a woman and lucky enough to live long enough to experience menopause, this matters.
Recently, Mattison and Stevie Fetters, two of the owners of Recoup Personal Training, attended a seminar led by Dr. Mary Claire Haver.
What was shared wasn’t new.
That’s the problem.
Much of this information has existed for decades. It just hasn’t been widely applied.
The Reality Most Women Aren’t Told
Perimenopause is not a slow decline, it’s a period of instability. Hormones, particularly estrogen, fluctuate unpredictably. These fluctuations impact nearly every system in the body, not just reproduction.
Research now shows that hormonal disruption during this phase drives widespread metabolic, cardiovascular, and musculoskeletal changes, often years before menopause is officially reached. At Recoup, we see this play out in real time.
Women are training, eating well, staying consistent and still feeling like their body is no longer responding the same way.
What Women Are Actually Experiencing
This is where the conversation needs to shift. Because, these are not isolated symptoms, they are predictable physiological changes.
Metabolic Changes:
- Increased insulin resistance, even in healthy women
- Higher rates of abdominal fat and metabolic syndrome
- Rising prevalence of obesity and insulin resistance over time
This is why fat loss becomes harder, energy becomes inconsistent, and progress feels stalled.
Cardiovascular Changes:
When estrogen levels drop during perimenopause and menopause, we lose key protective factors for hearth health.
- Increased risk of high blood pressure and cholesterol
- Symptoms like palpitations, hot flashes, and sleep disruption are tied to cardiovascular stress
This is not just about comfort. It is long-term health.
Bone and Musculoskeletal Changes:
- Bone loss accelerates during the menopausal transition
- Up to 20% of bone loss can occur post-menopause, with significant decline starting earlier
- Estrogen decline impacts joint health, recovery, and tissue quality
This is where strength training becomes non-negotiable.
Body Composition + Recovery
- Increased visceral fat (central fat storage)
- Reduced muscle preservation if training is not intentional
- Collagen loss impacting joints, skin, and recovery
This is why doing “what used to work” stops working.
The Problem With Waiting
One of the most significant takeaways from recent research and clinical notes is that women are constantly being told to wait—wait for symptoms to worsen, for cycles to stop, or for their status to become “official”.
However, the data is clear: these physiological changes begin years earlier. Because early intervention leads to significantly better outcomes, waiting is simply not an effective strategy.
Where Recoup Comes In
At Recoup Personal Training, we recognize our role. We are not replacing medical providers, but we are on the front lines.
We see when energy drops and recovery slows. We see when body composition shifts and progress stalls, despite effort. And we connect those patterns to what’s actually happening internally.
This allows us to adjust training appropriately, guide nutrition with intention, encourage deeper conversations around labs and hormones and help clients advocate for themselves earlier.
A Shift in the Industry
The term “biohacking” gets thrown around often, but what we’re actually seeing is this:
People want ownership.
They want to understand their body.
They want data.
They want answers earlier, not later.
And in women’s health, that demand is growing faster than the system is adapting.
Perimenopause is inevitable. Struggling through it without support is not. The more this conversation evolves, the clearer it becomes:
Your body is not broken.
Your symptoms are not random.
And you do not need to wait to take action.
Our Commitment
At Recoup, we are continuing to invest in education, research, and in understanding what our clients are going through at a deeper level.
Because the goal is not just to train harder, it’s to train smarter. To support better, and to meet you where you actually are.
If you feel like your body isn’t responding the way it used to, there’s a reason. And more importantly, there’s a path forward.
We’re here to help you navigate.
A Final Thought (And An Opportunity)
If there’s one thing we hope you take from this, it’s this:
Education is not optional when it comes to your health. It’s foundational. That’s why we’re encouraging you to go deeper.
There are two books: The New Perimenopause and The New Menopause by Dr. Marie Claire Haver – both are powerful resources to help you better understand what’s happening in your body and why.
And, because we believe this knowledge is that important, we want to support you in taking that step:

- For our current clients:
Purchase either book, and we’ll gift you a complimentary training session. - For those not yet part of Recoup:
Purchase either book, and we’ll gift you our full Renew You Trial – including:- A one-on-one goal setting consultation & mobility assessment
- An InBody body composition analysis
- 3 personal training sessions
No catch. No pressure. Just a commitment to helping you better understand your body.
All you have to do is text your name and a photo of your order confirmation for the book to 714-262-4003, and we’ll take care of the rest!
Because the more you understand what’s happening internally, the more empowered you are to take action externally.
And that’s where real change begins.

To your health,
Matt, Stevie & Bo — Recoup Owners
